Sunshine Discovery Playgroup
SBSS Playgroup is scheduled for Thursday mornings. Bookings are essential. Please refer to our website.

Our first bell goes at 8.25 and school officially starts at 8.30am. We finish at 2.30pm.

In Term 4, we have swimming lessons at the Noosa Aquatic Centre. A blue card is required for parents who accompany us.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY IN PREP LOOK LIKE?
Our first bell goes at 8.25 and school officially starts at 8.30am. We finish at 2.30pm.
Morning session typically consists of English; middle session maths focus; afternoon session Science, HASS and Art.
The following are incorporated into our weekly schedule:
- Performing Arts with a specialist teacher
- Physical Education with a specialist teacher
- Italian with a specialist teacher
- Library borrowing in the Resource Centre
- Assembly
- iPads and computers
Our programs cater for the individual child’s development.
- Read, read, read to your child! It makes a difference. e.g. nursery rhymes
- Encourage them to write- shopping lists, birthday cards
- Pack lunch and eat it at home
- Teach them how to toilet correctly.
- Play with numbers- count the steps, clap three times etc.
- Teach them how to write their name
- Teach them how to tie up their shoelaces
- Talk about the names of letters and the sounds they can make.
- Talk, talk, talk – oral language skills aid their reading skills.
Practical tips
- Shoes - teach independence. We suggest Velcro and spaghetti straps.
- Make your child's hat unique in some way. At SBSS Prep learners are identified by their yellow hats.
- Name all items.
Handwriting
We encourage children to use a pencil grip when writing.
Uniform
















Our uniform is available on premises from our uniform shop. Please check our website for current hours and pricelist.
With P&C endorsement, we have a Learner Dress Code which is available on our website.
Handy hints -
- velcro straps are encouraged, not laces in shoes.
- Make your child’s hat unique in some way e.g. add a decorative patch.
Stationery
Our Student Resource Scheme includes:
- the use of ABC Reading Eggs program
- Mathletics program

Families will need to purchase:
- earphones
- pencil case
Belongings
- PLEASE NAME ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT.
- We recommend closed in shoes with Velcro, not laces.
Pack
- Spare clothes (undies and/or shorts in case of mishap). Keep in sealed plastic bag in child’s school bag.
- Healthy morning tea & lunch All containers need to be opened by children - no tins please. Please ensure lunchboxes contain ice pack - we do not have microwaves nor fridges at school. We recommend your child practises eating out of lunch box.
- Fruit for fruit break.
- School hat NAMED and decorated so that it can be easily identified by child.
- Water bottle (clearly named). No glass bottles These are taken into class each day.
General information:
- Parking is located around three sides of the school. Arrive early for parking near prep area in the afternoons.
- Tie hair up for comfort and hygiene.
Guidelines for commencement of day
- NO PLAY BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL.
- Classrooms will be open at 8:20am.
- Bring in your child and find their desk.
- Place book bag on desk (Leave school bag out on port rack).
- Place healthy snack in the box.
- Choose one of the prepared activities.
- When shaker rings say “good-bye”.
- School finishes at 2:30 (wait outside classroom near the bottom of the slide).
Bus, Kiss and Drop information

Picking up your child
Please wait until final bell on terraced seating near the big tree at the bottom of the Prep area, not outside classroom doors.
Buses
Learners are able to catch buses from commencement of Prep. Staff collect learners from classrooms and escort to bus waiting zone. All children catching bus are supervised by staff until bus arrival.

8.25am - first bell – prepare for class
8.30am - second bell – morning session
10.30am – first break eating time
10.40am - first play time
11.05 - return to class
11.10am - middle session
1.10pm - second break eating time
1.20pm - second play time
1.35pm - return to class
1.40pm - afternoon session
2.30pm - school finishes
2.50pm - to ensure learner safety, this bell indicates to all students who are still waiting to be picked up to return to the office area for supervision. Please come to the office to pick up your child/ren after this time.
