PREPARING FOR SCHOOL
- Read, read, read to your child! It makes a difference. e.g. nursery rhymes
- Encourage them to write- shopping lists, birthday cards
- Pack lunch and eat it at home
- Teach them how to toilet correctly.
- Play with numbers- count the steps, clap three times etc.
- Teach them how to write their name
- Teach them how to tie up their shoelaces
- Talk about the names of letters and the sounds they can make.
- Talk, talk, talk – oral language skills aid their reading skills.
Practical tips
- Shoes - teach independence. We suggest Velcro and spaghetti straps.
- Make your child's hat unique in some way. At SBSS Prep learners are identified by their yellow hats.
- Name all items.
Handwriting
We encourage children to use a pencil grip when writing.
