SUNSHINE HIGHLIGHTS
PTP - Story time in the classroom

Our Prep classrooms had a lovely start to the day with a reading of Snail and Turtle Are Friends by Stephen Michael King. The story sparked great conversation about friendship and how we can be different but still get along. After the story, the children got creative making their own turtles using a mix of art materials—there was plenty of colour, glue and imagination on display! They then moved around the room, exploring different play spaces and continuing the theme of friendship through imaginative play.
Later in the morning, our Jelly Babies Childcare centre friends joined us for a fun session in the playground.
Great effort by our Year 5 Readers’ Cup Team
Our Year 5 team recently took part in the Readers’ Cup competition, hosted at Immanuel Lutheran College. Organised by the Queensland Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, this statewide event challenges students to read a set of five books and then compete in a quiz against other schools.
The books this year were:
The Kindness Project by Deb Abela
Fearless Frederic by Felice Arena
Silver Linings by Katrina Nannestad
11 Ruby Rd 1900 by Charlotte Barkla
Scar Town by Tristan Bancks
Thirty-one schools from across the Sunshine Coast (including public, private and independent) took part. Although our team didn’t place, the girls are to be congratulated for their teamwork, preparation and positive spirit. A big congratulations to Buddina State School who took out the top spot on the day.
Representing Sunshine Beach were Eva S and Alexandria S (5B) and Romina M (5R) who are three very dedicated and talented readers.
Here’s what they had to say:
Alexandria: 'This event was a blast! I was nervous at first—there were so many schools—but it made us work together as a team. I especially loved hearing from author Deb Abela; she was so funny and inspiring!’
Eva: ‘I loved being in a team and competing in one of my favourite hobbies—reading! This was the most fun I’ve had at school this term.’
Romina: ‘Overall, this was one of my favourite experiences this year. I loved connecting with my teammates and enjoying the joy of reading together.’
Readers’ Cup was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate books, teamwork and a shared love of reading—well done to our Year 5 team!
Explosive fun with Street Science!

Our Year 3 students had an absolute blast during their recent visit from Street Science. The incursion brought their science unit on heat to life through exciting demonstrations and hands-on experiments.
Italian lessons you can eat!
This term, our Year 4 students took their learning into the kitchen as they explored procedural texts through an Italian recipe. They learned the ingredients, the verbs used and followed the steps (all in Italian!) to make a delicious tramezzino.
As part of the unit, students were encouraged to try new flavour combinations and food textures expanding not just their vocabulary, but their tastebuds too! During their Italian lessons, students are used to hear different sounds, seeing different life habits and routines and trying new things.
Year 1s become farmers for a day!

Farm Friday was a huge success in Year 1! From line dancing, making sheep designing a farm and heaps more fun activities!
