SUNSHINE UPDATES

Benvenuti alla Unità Italiana - Anno 1-4 (Welcome to the Italian Unit - Years 1-4 Term 2)

Below is an overview of the Italian units for Term 2, encompassing Years 1 - 4. Our focus remains on fostering a love for the Italian language and culture while expanding vocabulary and language skills. As we progress through the curriculum, we encourage parents to actively engage in conversations with their children in Italian, utilising the vocabulary and phrases provided in the accompanying PDF documents.

Unit Objectives: Our primary objective for Term 2 is to further develop language proficiency through interactive and engaging activities. Students will continue to build upon their foundational Italian language skills, including vocabulary acquisition, sentence structure, and pronunciation.

Vocabulary and Resources: Each year level PDF includes a comprehensive list of vocabulary, phrases, and resources tailored to the respective age group. These resources serve as valuable tools for both students and parents to practice Italian language skills outside of the classroom setting.

Encouraging Conversation: We encourage parents to incorporate Italian into daily conversations with their children. Whether discussing daily activities, expressing emotions, or simply engaging in playful banter, every interaction in Italian contributes to language fluency and cultural appreciation.

Cultural Enrichment: In addition to language proficiency, our curriculum integrates cultural enrichment activities to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of Italian culture. From exploring traditional Italian cuisine to learning about famous landmarks, students will gain insight into the rich tapestry of Italian heritage.

Grazie mille!

Breakfast Club is back – now with a cuppa for parents!

Breakfast Club is kicking off again, weekly on a Thursday 8-8.25am, offering students a chance to grab a bite to eat and start the day with a full tummy and a friendly chat. It’s a relaxed and cheerful way to ease into the day and enjoy a bit of extra social time.

New this term: parents are warmly invited to stop by for a cuppa while the kids enjoy brekky. No need to stay, but you're very welcome if you'd like to.
Our chaplain is leading the way with support from our leadership students. We're so grateful for the generous food donations and excited to see how Breakfast Club grows over the term.

See you next Thursday 8-8:25am!

Pick of the Crop Update

Our school received a grant from Pick of the Crop, an initiative of Health and Wellbeing QLD operating in 250 state primary schools. Pick of the Crop schools provide opportunities for students to enjoy more fruits and vegetables.

The grant helps us to grow, prepare and eat fruits and veggies, and fosters connections with growers and other professionals. The initiative also provides access to curriculum-aligned teaching resources and programs. Helpers are always appreciated – in the garden, or whichever skills you can bring.

Please support this effort beyond the school gate by enabling healthy eating habits at home. You can start by getting the kids involved in preparing nutritious lunchbox treats like the Green Savoury Pikelets recipe here. For other info, tips and recipes visit www.hw.qld.gov.au/pick-of-the-crop/
